Green Depot in NYC- just opened!

If you live in the NYC area, you have to check out the new Green Depot which opened off Bowery. It's a great little stop that's come just in time for spring! We found it via Inhabitat and check out these great pics of the inside. To see more pics click here.

Similarly if you're ever in Paris, check out the Ekobo shop. Owned by Boo and Bruno, they design sustainable home products made from bamboo. We have a couple of their bowls and we absolutely love them! See the pic below of their store and you can read an interview with Boo online via Design Sponge.

d&a- finally!

It's been a hectic last couple weeks getting ready for the d&a tradeshow (castings, photoshoots, look book.....!), but well worth it when we finally pulled everything together. We dropped by d&a this past weekend and were so impressed with the amount of talented and tenacious designers showing this season.

We chatted with fellow sustainable designer Lara Miller and absolutely love her beautiful sweaters. We met a few other designers from Chicago and were inspired by their collections.

Our camera ran out of batteries (oops), but here's a pic of one of our Dorothy top (organic cotton!) that d&a chose for their fall highlights.

Anne Kyle- painter

Our friend, Anne Kyle is amazing painter and we just wanted to do a little post on her work. She's probably the daintiest lady you'll ever meet and when she's not painting, you can probably find her roller skating around the city. We actually named our Anne top after her (spring 08) and our Dainty dress (fall 09) in her honor.

We used a couple of her paintings in our fall 09 shoot and you couldn't see them that well, so we thought we'd put up a couple pics of her work. If you're looking for something special to hang on your walls, Anne paints on commission. From her bird series:

Behind the scenes of our fall 09 look book shoot!

Last weekend we shot our fall 09 look book and everything went really smoothly. Each time we shoot it, it gets a little bit easier. Thankfully, we had good luck with light and it was beautiful all day.

This time we decided to shoot it ourselves and are really happy with the results. Thanks to Stayc who did hair and makeup and our gorgeous and super sweet model, Caitlin J. who was wonderful to work with. If you are going to be at d&a tradeshow this weekend you can see the full collection at our booth. If not, here are some out takes below from the shoot:

Morning soundtrack- The Blow "True Affection"

We love this song "True Affection" by The Blow- it's been on rotation ever since we heard it on Pandora. Khaela Maricich is the front woman and has her own blog, which from the looks of it hasn't been updated in a while, but we love it anyways because it has pics of Dan Flavin's work (one of our favorite installation artists along with Kenneth Snelson).

Interview with our Fall 08 model- Kristin Flammio

As promised, we are very committed to supporting the people that we work with and their work. We both feel very lucky to be in a community with so many creative people.

Our next interview is with Kristin- our of our gorgeous models for our fall 08 collection. We got connected to Kristin through our photographer Eliz. We had asked Eliz if she knew any girls who'd be great to shoot and she suggested Kristin. They had been wanting to do a collaboration for a while and it worked out for everyone.

We were lucky enough to work with Kristin, who had modeled for awhile. She had a great attitude even when we were shooting her in dress in 20 degree weather! We had known Kristin was also a singer, but we were really excited when looked up The Knife "Heartbeats" video on youtube and found out that Kristin did an amazing cover. Kristin has a show coming up Jan. 21st at 92y Tribeca, so if you're in the NYC area check her out!

Name: Kristin Flammio
Website: www.myspace.com/kflammio
Hometown: Rockland, Massachusetts
Currently living: Williamsburg Brooklyn

When did you start singing and why did you get into it?
my father is a very musical guy (he's had a basement band for as long as i can remember) so i was always surrounded by songs and music

Who are your major musical influences?
Aimee Mann, Stephin Merritt (of Magnetic Fields), oldies! the list could go on and on.

You did some singing in Europe. How did that come about? What was it like? Is there a particular venue/place you like singing the most?
actually i went to europe for modeling not singing.... as far as a venue i enjoy playing at most, i don't have a favorite. when i lived in LA i'd play a few places on rotation but the best part of a venue is if they have plenty of seats, good drinks and no cover!

What are you working on now?
writing/recording. still playing as often but i'm working on really getting a solid group of songs together to make an album with. it's something i've always wanted to do. i'm also trying to collaborate more with other musicians to create new sounds.

If you could do a collaboration with anyone who would that be and why?
M.Ward, he has the coolest raspy voice and i am in awe of his music.

Who are you listening to right now?
right now i've been listening to TONS of old girl groups and french pop, my ipod is always on shuffle because i can't stick to just one thing!

Any good websites you read?
http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/ it is a great way to check out fashion around the world.

New Year's resolution?
stop being afraid of success. go for what you want because waiting around gets you nowhere!
